KNHML22X1,5 Keenserts heavy duty metric locking type

M22x1,5 metric fine internal thread (locking) and M30x2,0 external thread – 303 stainless steel

The heavy duty M22x2,5 keylocking insert results in an increased thread strength in low strength materials such as alloys or other light materials. The external thread of this insert is M30x2,0. This insert can also be used in steel and cast iron.

Although these type of inserts are typically used in a production environment, they are also popular as a high quality thread repair solution to replace a damaged thread with the same size thread.

Installation instructions

STEP 1 : Drill & Chamfer

KLTI-DRILL-CHAMFER

Drill a hole in the place where you want to use the insert. Chamfer the edges of the drilled hole.

Drill diameter: 30 mm
Drill partnumber: DRM-3000

Chamfer angle: 80° – 100°
Countersink diameter: 32,25 mm

STEP 2 : Tap thread

KLTI-TAP-THREAD

Tap thread inside the drilled hole with the same tread size as the outer thread of the insert.

Thread size: M32 x 2,0
Tolerance: 6H
Minimum depth: 36,5 mm
Tap partnumber: TP-M32-200

STEP 3 : Insert & Drive keys

KLTI-INSERT-DRIVE-KEYS

Install by screwing in the insert, rotating by hand and/or with the installation tool.
Once the insert is completely in place, tap the installation tool with the hammer so the keys are driven inside the outer thread, this accomplishes the locking of the insert in position.

Removal instructions

The insert is removed without any damage to the installation thread and a new (same size) insert can be used again.

STEP 1 : Drill

Drill out material between keys and internal thread with a standard drill to specified depth so that the keys become accesible.

Drill diameter: 27,75 mm
Drill partnumber: DRM-2775
Drill depth: 6,35 mm

STEP 2 : Unlock

KLTI-REMOVAL-REMOVE-KEYS

Break off the keys by deflecting them inwards.

STEP 3 : Remove

KLTI-REMOVAL-UNSCREW

Now that the keys are gone the insert is no longer locked in place and it is possible to take out the insert by unscrewing it with an easy out screw extractor.

The insert has now been removed. There is no damage to the installation thread. It is now possible to install a new (same size) insert by continuing with step 3 of the insallation instructions.
